College basketball transfer rankings 2023: Caleb Love picks Michigan, Jalen Cook commits to LSU

Two guards ranked among the top-20 transfers of the 2023 offseason announced their destinations Friday as college basketball’s player movement cycle continued to accelerate. First, former Tulane star Jalen Cook announced that he is transferring to LSU, which is where he began his career as a prospect from the Class of 2020. Then, former North Carolina point guard Caleb Love revealed that he is transferring to Michigan as the Wolverines seek to replace their top three scorers.

Cook will be vital in helping second-year LSU coach Matt McMahon gain traction after the Tigers finished 14-19 during the 2022-23 campaign. As a freshman for the Tigers in the 2020-21 season under former LSU coach Will Wade, Cook played just 7.5 minutes per contest before transferring to Tulane and becoming a two-time All-ACC performer for the Green Wave.

Love is arriving at Michigan as the Wolverines grapple with the transfer of star center Hunter Dickinson and NBA Draft declarations from leading perimeter players Kobe Bufkin and Jett Howard. He showed immense potential in three seasons with the Tar Heels but often struggled to be efficient as UNC trudged through a disappointing 2022-23 campaign.
