From the sound of reports coming from head coaching vacancies around the NBA becoming public knowledge, it seems that former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka may not be a coaching free agent much longer. Udoka, who was suspended and then let go by Boston for an improper relationship with another team employee, is reportedly in the mix for the top job with the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons.
For the Pistons, “Candidates will include Bucks assistant Charles Lee, Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin, Ime Udoka, Heat assistant Chris Quinn, among others,” according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
As for the Rockets, some of the more “prominent candidates in the Rockets’ search will be former Celtics coach Ime Udoka, Golden State assistant Kenny Atkinson and former Lakers coach Frank Vogel.”
There had been speculation in the media that Udoka might take more time returning to the coaching ranks given the pushback that was seen when the Portland native was in the mix to replace Steve Nash on the Brooklyn Nets.
But it appears to be less of a concern at present with Udoka’s name in the mix for several such vacancies around the league.
