College basketball transfer rankings 2023: Former Syracuse C Jesse Edwards commits to West Virginia

West Virginia made another significant transfer addition Sunday when Jesse Edwards announced his commitment to the Mountaineers after four seasons at Syracuse. The 6-foot-11 center earned All-ACC and ACC-All Defensive honors during the 2022-23 season while leading the conference in blocks per game at 2.7.

Edwards ranks No. 8 in the CBS Sports transfer rankings, and his addition marks the latest portal splash for WVU coach Bob Huggins. The Mountaineers also have a commitment from No. 7 transfer Kerr Kriisa, a point guard who played at Arizona the past three seasons. The duo gives West Virginia, which is coming off a 19-15 season and a first-round NCAA Tournament loss, one of the strongest transfer hauls of the offseason to date.

In addition to rim protection, Edwards can provide a scoring punch inside for the Mountaineers. He averaged 14.5 points for the Orange this past season and finished second in the ACC in rebounding at 10.3 boards per contest. Edwards also had Kansas and Gonzaga among his finalists in a sign of just how highly sought he’s been during the 2023 transfer cycle.

Well over 1,000 Division I players have entered the portal and there are still weeks of player movement ahead before 2023-24 rosters will be even close to settled. Here at CBS Sports, we have distilled the massive number of transfers to a list of the top names to know. This list will grow and player rankings will change as the May 11 deadline for players to enter the portal approaches.
