2023 NBA playoffs bracket: Schedule, matchups with Celtics besting Hawks; second round starts Saturday

Kim O’Reilly, CBS Sports

The second-round matchups are starting to come into focus for the 2023 NBA playoffs. Five teams have punched their tickets to the next round, including one massive upset. The eighth-seeded Heat ousted the top-seeded Bucks on Wednesday night as Jimmy Butler led another come-from-behind victory. The Heat will face the Knicks in the second round after New York pulled an upset of its own against the fourth-seeded Cavaliers. Thursday, the Celtics took down the Hawks to punch their ticket to the second round. They have joined the Heat, Knicks, Nuggets, Suns and 76ers in the second round with Lakers-Grizzlies and Warriors-Kings still to be decided.

The second round gets started this weekend with Suns-Nuggets on Friday, and the remaining first-round series will also wrap up in the coming days. The Hawks host the Celtics in Game 6 on Thursday night, needing another win to remain alive. The Lakers and Warriors both host Game 6’s of their own on Friday night with both teams in the position to advance with a victory.
