College basketball transfer rankings 2023: Penn’s Jordan Dingle, the Ivy League Player of the Year, in portal

The trickle of potential impact players into the transfer portal has slowed in advance of the May 11 entry deadline. However, there is still quality talent to be found in college basketball’s unofficial free agency period. Look no further than Jordan Dingle as an example.

A 6-foot-3 guard and the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, Dingle entered the transfer market late last week and figures to attract significant interest from programs across the country in need of a scoring punch from their backcourt.

The closest comparison to Dingle of the past few seasons is likely former Columbia star and Michigan grad transfer Mike Smith, who joined the Wolverines for the 2020-21 season and immediately became a full-time starter. After leading the Ivy League in scoring during the 2019-20 season, he averaged nine points and 5.3 assists per game for a Wolverines’ team that finished 23-5 with a two-point loss against UCLA in the Elite Eight.

Dingle is 4 inches taller than Smith and more of a natural scorer than a distributor. But his track record of production in the same conference suggests he could be immediately impactful for a high-major program with designs on a deep run in the 2023-24 season.

Well over 1,000 Division I players have entered the portal and there are still weeks of player movement ahead before 2023-24 rosters will be settled. Here at CBS Sports, we have distilled the massive number of transfers to a list of the top 40 names to know. This list will evolve and player rankings will change as the May 11 deadline for players to enter the portal approaches.
