KRYSTEN PEEK: 2024 NBA draft still remains wide open all the way through to the end of the first round. Although there are some names consistently trending towards the top half of the draft, there is no clear cut number one consensus top pick this year. Here’s Yahoo Sports’s latest top five projections in the upcoming NBA draft.
Up first is Colorado freshman Cody Williams. Williams, is 6 foot 8 wing, was sidelined for five weeks with a wrist injury and came back strong to start conference play. In a recent win over Oregon, Williams put up a season high 23 points on 13 attempted shots and added three assists and two blocks. His older brother, Jaylen Williams, was taken in the lottery two years ago by the Thunder and was an instant impact rookie in his first year.
Up next is 7 foot Frenchman Alex Sarr. He is currently sidelined with a hip injury and will be out two to three weeks for the Perth Wildcats in Australia’s NBL. Sarr has great size and versatility at the center position and has started to develop more of an outside jumper in the pick and pop. At number three is French sharpshooter Zaccharie Risacher. The 6 foot 8 wing has really upped his intensity and continues to be more aggressive offensively as the season goes on. In a recent win, Rishacher posted 22 points and went 4 for 6 from deep, while committing only one turnover in 21 minutes.
Following at number four is Baylor shooting guard Ja’Kobe Walter. The 6 foot 6 freshman started the season hot from behind the arc. But the scouting report is out. And teams are limiting his touches. He’s shooting 36.5% from 3-point range on the season and averaging 14.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
And finally, rounding out the top five is G League Ignite wing Ron Holland. Holland is coming off a 30-point game in a near triple double, 21 points, 10 boards, 8 assists, four blocks and three steals. And even though the Ignite are struggling to win games, Holland continues to show scouts…
