College basketball transfer portal rankings 2024: Great Osobor, MW Player of Year, commits to Washington

The partnership between Danny Sprinkle and Great Osobor is set to enter its third evolution as the former Montana State and Utah State big man committed to Washington on Monday. Sprinkle coached Osobor at both of his prior collegiate stops, and the two enjoyed breakthrough seasons at USU in 2023-24 that sent the stock soaring on both.

Osobor won 2023-24 Mountain West Player of the Year as the leading scorer for an Aggies team that finished 28-7 with an outright MWC title and second round NCAA Tournament appearance. When Sprinkle left to take the Washington job after his lone season at USU, Osobor entered the transfer portal.

But it was not a foregone conclusion that Osobor would follow Sprinkle to yet another school. As a consensus top-50 transfer, Osobor attracted plenty of high-major interest from the likes of Kentucky, Louisville and others. What may have set the Huskies apart is that he already has $2 million in NIL deals lined up, per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

With that price tag and the accolades he earned at Utah State, the 6-foot-8 bruiser will be expected to shine for a Huskies program that has made just one NCAA Tournament since 2011. Osobor averaged 17.7 points, nine rebounds and 2.8 assists on 57.7% shooting for Utah State. It will be essential for Washington’s hopes of early success in the Big Ten that Osobor’s game to a higher level of competition as the Huskies transition to a new coach and new conference.

The deadline for players to enter the transfer portal and be eligible next season passed on May 1. The chaos isn’t quite over yet, though. Players who entered before the deadline still have ample time to choose their new school ahead of the 2024-25 season. Those who are exploring the NBA Draft process have until May 29 to withdraw if they want to return to college next season.
