The college basketball transfer portal is closed. That sound you hear is coaches exhaling in glee. Ultimately, just one NCAA Tournament team was able to retain its best two players from last season. Purdue keeping Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn out of the portal is enormous. Oregon can join Purdue as the Retention Champions if Nate Bittle exits next month’s NBA Draft and runs it back next to stud guard Jackson Shelstad, who inked with Oregon for his junior season.
Still, all eyes remain on the big fish left in free agency. There were a few notable, big-name entries to hit the portal this week, but it’s also Flipping Season as programs try to convince committed transfers to reconsider. The biggest example of this last year was when Missouri transfer John Tonje flipped from New Mexico to Wisconsin and turned into an All-American.
Here’s the final ranking of the Top 150 players in the transfer portal and where some of them are slated to suit up next season (for now).
Check out the top players in the portal and the latest transfer portal updates from 247Sports.
1. F Yaxel Lendeborg
Transferring from: UAB | To: Michigan
The scout: A 6-foot-9, 240-pound do-it-all forward who can play the 4 or smallball 5. His 30-20-8-0-4-5 AAC Tournament line was one of the best stat lines in college hoops all season. Lendeborg is the most complete player in this portal cycle. If he returns to school, he’s a First Team, All-League talent with a chance to be a first-round pick in the NBA Draft.
2. G PJ Haggerty
Transferring from: Memphis
The scout: The turbo scoring guard is one of the elite transition terrors in college basketball who just lives at the charity stripe. The AAC Player of the Year is capable of scoring 40 or picking defenses apart as a creator. Haggerty isn’t a high-volume 3-point shooter or an elite defender, but the 6-3 guard will threaten for the scoring title in any league in America next…
