Timberwolves confirm one fan ejection, still searching for second fan who made ‘racially charged comments’ toward Draymond Green

The Minnesota Timberwolves are searching for a fan who made “racially charged comments” toward Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green during Thursday’s game.

The team put out a statement Friday, saying it was informed that a fan directed “racially charged comments” at Green, but left the stadium before he was identified.

The Timberwolves say surrounding patrons identified the fan in question.

The Timberwolves also confirmed a different fan was ejected during the game for “violating the NBA Fan Code of Conduct in an incident involving Draymond Green.” No other details were given about the ejection.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter, per the team’s statement. While the league did not go into detail, video emerged on social media showing Green getting into a verbal back-and-forth with a fan while riding a stationary bike near the Warriors’ tunnel. The person who posted the video claimed a fan directed racial language at Green.

Green likely drew the ire of fans earlier in the contest, when he picked up a technical foul after hitting Naz Reid in the face after the Timberwolves center fouled Green. It was Green’s fifth technical foul in nine playoff games. If he gets called for two more technicals, Green will face a suspension.

After the contest — which the Warriors lost 117-93 — Green expressed his frustration over his repeated run-ins with officials, saying he’s “sick of the agenda to make me look like the angry Black man.”

Green did not discuss the fan ejection or the “racially charged comments” after the game.

The Timberwolves are “continuing to investigate” the situation and said additional action may be taken. The team added that it is “committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful and safe environment for all.”
