Seminoles coach Luke Loucks, a teammate of Reid’s from 2008 to 2010, shared news of Reid’s death in a social media post.
“Ryan was more than just a great basketball player — he was a great competitor, a trusted teammate, a natural leader, a devoted husband and a loving father,” said Loucks. “He was a mountain of a man, both in stature and in spirit — always standing tall for the people he cared about. His personality filled every room, his sense of humor lifted every moment, and his presence made us all better — on and off the court. I’ll forever be grateful for the battles we shared, the laughs we had, and the memories we built together.”
Reid was a key piece for the Seminoles during the earlier years of the Leonard Hamilton era, appearing in 126 games and with 66 starts over his four-year career from 2006-2010. The 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward earned a reputation as one of the best defensive forwards in the country during his time in Tallahassee; he was often tasked with guarding the other team’s top scorers as the program built towards national relevance. He was named team captain as a senior.
Reid was part of a core group that helped Florida State secure 88 wins over his four seasons and was one of just three Seminoles at the time to appear in postseason play during all four years, including back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. Previously, FSU appeared in consecutive NCAA Tournaments in 1992 and ’93.
