Longhorns men’s basketball ranked in preseason Top 25

After an offseason full of change, expectations are high for Texas Longhorns men’s basketball. Over the last few months, Sean Miller has been busy reshaping his roster through the transfer portal. His hard work is getting national attention. The Longhorns were ranked as the 24th-best team in the nation in Chris Dortch’s Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook preseason top 25.

While there will be a lot of new faces, Texas will have a few returning veterans to rely on. That includes Tramon Mark, Jordan Pope, Nic Codie, and Chendall Weaver. The additions include Lassina Traore, Camden Heide, Daily Swain, Simeon Wilcher, and Matas Vokietaitis. They will be tasked with turning around a Longhorns program that did not meet expectations last year.

The Longhorns finished last season with a 19-16 record. While they did qualify for the NCAA Tournament, their championship run was short-lived. That led to Head Coach Rodney Terry being let go, and Sean Miller was brought in to provide a spark.

Although expectations are high, it is a challenge Miller is ready for. His new look roster will get a chance to show what they are made of on Nov.4 in their season opener against Duke. That should be a good matchup for the Longhorns as they look to make a statement early on.

For the Longhorns, the key during the 2024-2025 campaign will be consistency. While they thrived at home last year, they were 9-9 in conference Play and 4-6 on the road. An improvement in both categories would go a long way.

With the start of the regular season just a few months away, optimism is high for what the Longhorns can accomplish with Miller leading the way.
